Review of francoiscc about the flight Air Canada Rouge between Toronto Lester B. Pearson Intl and Las Vegas on 14/06/2014 in Economy

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

I went on this flight from Toronto Pearson to Las Vegas for touristic reasons. I could choose between this flight, which was on a Boeing 767-300 operated by Air Canada Rouge, and a WestJet flight that I could get under a Delta flight number that would get me Flying Blue miles.

The word “Rouge” is very important here because it’s actually not the same thing as the service provided by Air Canada. At the airport, we were tended by the Air Canada staff. It all began with us not being able to check in using the check-in machines, so we had to head to the help desk. None of the agents spoke French.

Boarding was quick. Seats were organized in 2-3-2. There were no individual screens, but there was a wireless entertainment system that you could use on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Unfortunately, this system was not very good. They didn't even give you headphones for those who wanted to use the entertainment system and had not thought of bringing headphones.

Legroom was small. The cabin seemed new and was clean.

The Rouge branch of Air Canada is a seasonal and low-cost branch. Checked bags are charged extra and so are the in-flight meals. I am personally horrified at having to pay to eat aboard a plane—not really because of the price, but as a matter of principle. The flight was of almost five hours, so only non-alcoholic beverages were free.

The cabin was cold during the flight and I was frozen. The flight attendants didn't smile much, but some spoke French. They didn't even wear the same uniform as their Air Canada colleagues—theirs is a bit more laid-back, with a hat that was permanently on their heads.

If I were to go on this trip again, I would choose WestJet and go for a stopover. I decided to spend more money to fly with what I thought was normal airline, but I found myself on a low-cost flight. I’m never again flying with Air Canada Rouge. However, I will stay loyal to Air Canada ;)
