The joys of flying low-cost

Review of ggp about the flight Volotea between Palma and Nantes on 27/08/2013 in Economy

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

Once done with the check-in formalities, on to the boarding gate.
It’s not a very expensive flight, so the boarding gate will at the end of Palma’s airport, which is only the biggest one in Spain…!

Rather like indigents, we just wait, our buttocks resting on the metallic benches, with the only facilities being three vending machines, two of them broken…!
It doesn’t matter. It’s 10 p.m. and departure is at 11 :45 p.m.. We will skip the snack.
11:40 p.m…. Apart from the parade of Ryanairs, no Volotea is called. Is this a sign? The boarding personnel forgot to show up?

Well, where is the information screen that lets them save on personnel?
Near the gate before. Let’s go just for the walk, it will keep the kids busy.
Good news: the flight is still displayed. On the other hand, something weird: the gate number has disappeared. Next announcement at 1:20 a.m., for those who read English or Spanish, of course.
1:20 in the morning. What a relief, the plane is confirmed at the same gate, we won’t have walk through the entire airport…
What is, then, this old white Boeing, with its nose still having a blue and green makeup on and the name of its previous owner being hidden by a white paint job, much like what a nice student would do to his rental to make it a little less embarrassing before handing back the keys?

It’s for us. At the same time, we see two approaching employees of this airline, whose gait had a determination and celerity that must be well proportional to the salary they get for these nightly hours.
Ola…Adios! No French in the program. As for having the presumptuousness of hoping for some snippets of information about this delay, we will have to let it go.

Like cattle waiting for the abattoir, we wait for the previous passengers to leave the plane with their expressionless faces at a time when we should already be back home. While there were a few passing comments on the appearance or age of the machine, they open the door and we’re able to march en masse into the mouth of the beast.

Choosing the seats is chaotic. The head flight attendant threatens us on the microphone: if nobody makes an effort, we might be late…
We take off and then we land to face another mess with the luggage.

In short, this experience will be crucial for me in avoiding this the next time the travel agent proposes this airline. Apparently the flights to Venice are already four hours late… and they still don’t give any information to the client-passenger, who is the airline’s source of profit.
