I had the pleasure of taking a charter flight from Dubai-Caracas. Flight duration 15h30.
Conviasa mainly operates regular scheduled routes but from time to time offers some charter flights including this return from Caracas to Dubai.
The plane is an A340-200 registered YV-1004 (previously having flown under the colours of Air France, Air Tahiti Nui, Air Bourbon and Air Europa), owned by Airbus Financial Services and rented to Conviasa since 2007.
The seats were comfortable (the cabin is identical to Air Bourbon's) and the pitch excellent. The only slight flaw was there's no in-flight entertainment for each seat, but that didn't really bother me as I'd rather look through the window than be stuck to my screen. In any case, there were 6 audio channels offering different style of music (classic, latin, jazz, pop) and 2 films projected onto central screens with geovision between each showing.
The staff were very friendly, mainly speaking good English (one steward even spoke French), with plenty of cabin announcements. I was able to go into the cockpit, a great delight which I haven't managed to do since Air Bourbon in 2004.
One downside is that the ground service was terrible at Caracas with over an hour's wait before getting our bags (they arrived on time but not in the right place!) But hey, it it's the holidays you can afford to take things easy....
However, I had to check in 3 hours later for a flight from Caracas to Buenos Aires on a B737-300.
