Booked a return ticket from Manchester, UK to Vancouver International for just under £400. Bit of a delay boarding at Manchester but don't know what the reason was as no information given. However, we were soon on our way about 1 hour after scheduled take-off time.
The plane was a bit cramped and leg-room was a bit of an issue. But that said, when you are 6'05" leg-room is always an issue. The food offered would never win Masterchef. It was a choice of rolls with a small cake for dessert. But it was tasty enough and filled a hole.
The flight was smooth and the staff were pleasant. I got chatting to one very friendly male flight attendant on the way over, and he also happened to be on the return flight, so it was nice to see a familiar and friendly face.
Of course, there are always flight staff who look like they are sucking a lemon, but you will get that on all flights with all airlines. The joys of being human eh. The return flight left on time and was fine. There was a reasonable selection of films and other programmes to watch on both flights.
If you want Egon Ronay standard food, bags of leg-room, and an all-round first class experience, and cost is not an issue, you probably wont want to book with Air Transat. But that standard of flight comes at a price.
If like myself you are on a budget and you want a cheap, no-frills airline that does what it says on the tin, then I recommend Air Transat. I am now about to book my next flight to YVR with them.
I do not want to comment on the experiences that others have had, but all I can say is that if you cannot stand being a little bit cramped for a few hours of your life, and if you can't go without the 5-star food that you obviously eat at home on a daily basis, then perhaps you should stay at home. Or, as I mentioned above, you could always pay £1500 to fly with a more 'branded' airline.
Smile, you're on holiday :).
