Just about right

Review of grandbibou about the flight XL Airways France SE1448 between Paris Charles De Gaulle and Fort De France on 02/05/2013 in Economy

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

Flight to the Antilles on one of their new Airbus 330-300 planes. I was pleased to find out about their new equipment so that I could compare with their 330-200.
Check-in was on-time and coming from the provinces I was very early for registration, so I could choose the seats I wanted. I was therefore seated in row 43, which is the first of the rows of two on their planes. (The seat configuration is 3-3-3 and 2-3-2 at the back of course). You should know that their A330-300 only has a single economy class, so no one gets jealous ;-).

Plane new in December 2012, if my information is correct, “leather” seats, not very big but enough space for the legs. (I am 1.83m). Takeoff is slightly delayed, and the time not made up during the flight but no problem, we are on holiday… ;-). The safety regulations are very obviously respected.

With regard to screens, there are no individual ones, and the centre row had one above their heads, which was bad luck for those at their sides if they wanted to follow the films. I must add that there were two electric sockets for a row of 3 seats (if my memory is correct) situated below the seats, quite difficult to access but indicated with a green LED, so not too stressful if you wish to watch films on your computer or tablet, and no worries about the battery running out ;-).

The back of the cabin is quite noisy, which is a nuisance, and as usual it was hot on the side rows (the climate control did not fall directly on us, but all the airbuses I have known have been like that).

I enjoyed my meal-on-a-tray, the quality was as to be expected for an airplane meal. It is regrettable that for regular flights the drinks are additional. (This is not pointed out at booking, which I feel is not quite correct on the part of the airline.) Regular XL flights from and to the Antilles are the exception on which drinks and snacks are extra. You have now been informed. (Of course, I am excluding the Tour Operator charter flights where frequently everything is extra.)

The baggage arrived intact and was almost the last to be delivered.
It is the fourth time that I have travelled on XL and it will not be the last.
-1 star for drinks and snacks to be paid for on arrival
-1 star for the fairly long wait for the baggage.

In any event, I would like to thank the XL crew who were incredibly friendly. They were smiling, obliging and professional. Thanks to Céline, the head crew member, for this super flight ;-).

Thanks for reading. Have a good flight.
