An unexpected journey

Review of ariamondu about the flight Indonesia Air Asia QZ8396 between Kuala Lumpur and Bali on 16/10/2012 in Economy

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

Don’t see there any analogy to Peter Jackson’s latest movie. Let’s just say that in my case, it was unexpected that Air Asia would take me from Kuala Lumpur to Bali.

I was waiting for my next flight at KUL’s low-cost terminal when I thought I understood the announcement they were giving: my next flight to Jakarta would have a delay of two hours. The problem was that two hours was exactly enough for me to miss my other flight (which was supposed to take me to Lombok, on another airline…).
It’s not really Air Asia’s problem, because in the end they would fulfill their contract by taking me to Jakarta.

Despite everything, at the counter, with the help of an under pressure and overwhelmed airline employee, I decided to change my flight to land in Bali. You have to commend Air Asia on this one—this employee kept his smile and did this best. Well, off I went to Bali. As for the rest, it’s another story….

On this respect, I have to say I have a very bad impression of Air Asia. But I have to admit that the rest compensates rather well this dark part of my experience with this airline.

Actually, the K-pop-based ambient music (to which I got hooked), the stunning stewardesses (ah, the Asian charm…) and the service (the Asian rigor) left me with a very good impression.

A short story: all meals on-board were charged extra, so I found myself facing a problem because I wanted to eat something. This charming Korean stewardess told me that only US dollars and Indonesian rupees were accepted. I looked stupid with my euros and my Korean wons (yes, I was actually coming from Seoul).

Finally, an old Indonesian man with a great heart understood the situation (without even exchanging a word—we didn't speak the same language) and offered to pay for my meal.

Next, our Korean stewardess offered to exchange my wons for some rupees.

I finally arrived in Bali with a nice impression thanks to (and despite of) Air Asia. I still haven’t reached my final destination, but that’s another story….
