After a violent thunderstorm completely halted air traffic at the Sydney Airport, my flight was delayed by an hour. Qantas' customer counter was packed. The staff was always cheerful and showed a sense of humor. There were frequent announcements in the terminal to keep the customers informed. The crew was fresh—they were starting their workday with this flight. Boarding in the terminal was also done by 2 members of the flight crew. On board the plane the crew provided impeccable, cheerful service. The aircraft, a B737-800, was also perfect. After takeoff, there was a pleasant surprise: it was announced over the public address system that there would be a choice of two boxed meals, one hot and the other cold. Service began right after takeoff. Cold beverages, alcoholic or not, were free just like the hot beverages, of course. Before landing they offered us Lindt chocolate.
It was a nice surprise for me. 1 hour of flying and a choice of 2 meals. A flight with everything. The cheerful crew was helpful and professional. This was truly 5-star service in economy class!
Luggage was delivered in record time. Perfect throughout the entire route. For the record, Qantas is competing with Virgin Australia on this route.
