I booked this flight on the airline website one month before my departure. I directly received a very brief confirmation e-mail (only one line of text with a link to access my e-ticket). Since I had to take a (domestic) Shanghai-Jinan flight right afterwards, I tried many times, in vain, to contact the Parisian branch of the airline to know if my luggage would be transferred. They never answered.
On the day of departure, boarding went fine. The agents welcomed passengers with a “Ni hao” that I did not expect! The plane was new and clean.
The flight took place without a problem, from beginning to end. The meals (which had been charged in Paris) were not bad. On the other hand, the flight attendants were not very smiling.
I think of not flying with this airline again for one only reason: everything is in Chinese. The films (some in English), the reading material, the people… This could be nice, but when you have more than 10 hours of flight, it can become annoying. I was lucky enough to have an empty seat on my left, which allowed me to accommodate myself better, because the seats are typical of the class I booked: economic (thus terrible).
We arrived on-time in Shanghai. Ready for another hour inside a plane for a domestic flight (no need to check my bags again) with China Eastern.
So, for me, there were pros and cons, but other people might think differently.
