There you go, I’m on vacation! Anyway, almost…
We arrived at the Frankfurt airport and approached the entrance gate when a stranger told us that we could go back home because no flight would take off before 6 AM of the following day.
We made our way to the check-in counters anyway, where the crew was discussing in the gravest way possible. We were wondering what was going on when we heard the whistles and shouts of the striking crew members who were passing in front of the passengers.
At the same time, Malaysia’s agent called our attention: “Your attention, please. The flight will not depart today due to the strike of the safety personnel. We propose the following solutions:
1) We take the plane to Zurich and you take off from there (we will transfer you to the airport on a bus)
2) We take the plane to Amsterdam and you take off from there (same thing, but it’s six and a half hours inside the bus)”
The panic and insults break out…
Two hours later, they gave us a voucher (10 euros per person) to spend on any restaurant in the airport…
Another two hours and the agent comes back with a smile: “Malaysia Airlines offers you a night in a hotel.”
A bus takes us to the hotel! This hotel is pretty honest; I think it even had a swimming pool and a sauna. The rooms were very nice (see the pictures).
SATURDAY, February 22
We made our way to the check-in counters where we checked in without a hassle!
Then came boarding, where we had to wait for 45 minutes in a tiny room.
Bus transfer to the airplane and we finally discovered that it was an old 777-200…
The color of the seats was really ugly…
There were personal screen, but they were small and the quality was awful. Still, for 720 euros (Frankfurt-Phuket) per person, we can’t really complain :)
We didn't take off on time, but there plane wasn't full – we had five seats for two people. Cool, huh?
Fair meals and drinks with unlimited refills. Crew very smiling and efficient.
Nice temperature and large selection of films in French! (More than Singapore Airlines)
Comfortable seat with good reclination.
