A marvelous airline

After booking a Paris-Beirut roundtrip, I discovered to my great surprise that the flight would be operated by Middle East Airlines, Lebanon’s national airline. Their partnership with Air France is really very strong. And I understand better why.

I had the opportunity of taking this flight many times with Air France. Always in economy class and, as you can imagine, Air France’s service is very average, even variable. It goes from good to horrible.

And here, it was incomparable!

After being slightly late, I found myself among the last passengers to board the flight. And surprise! I somehow found myself in business class. The airplane was a brand new A330. It was organized in a way that would make any plane of Air France’s fleet red with shame.

The meal was served with real tableware (real silverware in business class, in particular) even on the return flight, which was in economy class. The crew was very considerate and smiling.

The airplane had an individual entertainment system where each person was free to choose his or her own preferred movie or TV show.

The same for the space between seats. No more charter flights! We felt as if we were back in the 90s, when taking an airplane was synonymous with luxury and comfort. And this was even in economy class.

As for the meal, it was frankly the one of the best meals I’ve ever had at a 10000-meter altitude. The wine was excellent. Each dish was served in a specific plate. A real restaurant service! You were free to eat whenever you wanted (in business class, of course!).

In economy, the meal was equally excellent. For dessert, I had a raspberry tartlet that was just incredible! Of course, in economy you only get the traditional tray, but, as I’ve mentioned above, there was real tableware—with the exception of the silverware.

MEA is doubtlessly the airline that impressed me the most. Beyond the service provided by the crew, the airplane seemed new, and the pilots were real aces. Despite the horrible weather in Paris, they managed to make flawless flights. Safety was no doubt better than with Air France flights.

I have flown with many airlines in my life, but MEA is a five-star. I recommend them 250%. You can go with your eyes closed.
