I’ve traveled on Luxair since 1980 and have always praised this airline that, for medium haul airlines, was perfect. For about two years now, declining business has left travelers sceptical and they have been turning to low-cost airlines, which I didn’t understand.
As of yesterday, I understand: what a deception when checking bags in Barcelona: our checked baggage was a few extra kilos overweight, leaving us with the choice to either pay 15 euros extra per kilo or to repack and lighten our bags, which is what we did! I don’t know if these are instructions coming from Barcelona or Luxair 2014, but we have always known this airline to be tolerant. So, disappointment at check-in.
On the other hand, the flight, even if the in-flight meals with pre-dinner drinks and after-dinner liqueur have been replaced by a good quality sandwich, cold beverage, and coffee or tea to finish, and the little sweet treat for the landing, were perfect, as was the outward journey from Luxembourg to Barcelona.
I hope that Luxair will continue to be “cool” concerning overweight luggage because, if not, the low-cost airlines are really going to get the upper hand!
Too bad, because when you book ahead of time, Luxair has competitive rates!
