For the interhub AF-KLM flight, go with KLM

Review of AirNapoleon about the flight KLM Royal Dutch Airlines KL1246 between Paris Charles De Gaulle and Amsterdam on 30/10/2013 in Business

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

Depending on the time and for direct flight, for the CDG-AMS Route you can choose between Air France and KLM for the same price and conditions, and almost the same service. I recommend KLM, which is often a little better than AF.

The meal in economy class consists of a sweet or savory snack and a drink, and is included in the price the ticket. It should be noted that for the past few years KLM has been seizing on the "From Holland Festival" to value national products.

This has kept them from serving the same perpetual biscuit that is always given out by its sister airline Air France. This also allows for a little originality, whether in the plastic cups engraved with bicycles and tulips, or in the message written on the napkin. There's also a speculoos-shaped mill on the bottom side of the meal's current package. Still, I wonder why they bother serving such small snacks without offering a paid meal for those who are really hungry...

On KLM flights (and never on AF flights) there is also always a screen that shows the progression of the flight.

In business class (where I was during the flight here described), we can thank Marcel Wanders for the design of the tableware, with the KLM box and it's engraved cutlery. However, we are starting to know it by heart. Because of the widely publicized intervention made last June by AF-KLM CEO Mr. de Juniac (which was good or bad, depending on your culinary taste), the rollmops (rolled fish) have been replaced by a "nothing" salad (a green leaf salad with no sauce) and a cheese or salmon sandwich (in the 10 AM to 3 PM version, knowing that there are three variations: breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

The CDG-AMS flight is short but representative of KLM flights in Europe, with an efficient and attentive crew. Business class is more crowded that in other airlines, though, as the first few rows are always used by AF-KLM executives who travel between the group's two hubs.

In practice, they will serve you a drink by first placing a glass on a tray, will make announcements in French, and will ask you three times if all is well.
An advantage over AF is that the seats recline and have an announced width of 33 inches in business and "comfort plus" classes.
