A pleasant flight where we were upgraded!

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

Continuation of our trip to the United States. The first part: http://wtf.tl/a/2/1/a/1bk/ . Today, we traveled from Los Angeles to New Orleans. This flight was originally planned for 10:25 and would last 3 hours and 50 minutes.

The night before our departure, we went to the Delta website to check-in. The website was very clear and well made. The check-in kiosks that we found at the airport the next day were equally user friendly. Once identified, the site informed me that the flight departure time had changed and would now depart at 10:35. That's not all. I learned that I would not have a seat next to my wife. That's too bad. I was disappointed. We had booked these tickets more than 2 months ago. So I decided not to check in online and to try to change it at the airport.

Next, we got to the airport. We discussed the situation with a Delta representative, who told us to check in at the machine and that if something could be done, it will be done at the boarding gate. Therefore, we checked in using an interface similar to the internet site. We also discovered that our flight time had changed again: we would now take off at 10:45. Completed in 3 minutes. Next we went to the line to check our baggage. When we arrived at the counter, we reported our situation (that we would like to travel together), and the lady nicely also told us to wait at the boarding gate. So far the staff was very welcoming.

Next, we went through the security check. Nothing to report.

After arriving at the boarding gate, we went to the counter to try to travel together. We pointed out that it was our honeymoon. The person told us that she will do what she can, but there would be no guarantee because the flight is full. In short, more waiting.

The flight was delayed. However, the Delta staff regularly told us the cause (the plane had not yet arrived) and the estimated time before take-off: 10 minutes for disembarkment, 10 minutes for cleaning...around 20 or 30 minutes before take-off, so my companion went back to the counter to see if something had been done with regards to our seats. And yes, they were able to find side-by-side seats. And what's more, we were upgraded to economy plus class. Nice!

We finally boarded a Delta Airbus A319 after a 40 minute delay. The seating configuration was 2-2 in first class and 3-3 in economy and economy plus. The seats were blue leather and rather comfortable.

No TV, pillow or blanket, but wifi was available ($12 for 3 hours). My space was very wide and I had plenty of leg room (maybe even more than in first class). However, the bottom of my seat was easily detached because of the wear and scratches. Too bad. The flight attendant offered to try to replace it without any success.

The flight attendants were nice but not very graceful.

The safety instructions were only announced in English. The captain presented the flight path, weather conditions for the flight, and explained that he would try to make up lost time for the delay.

Shortly after take-off, we were offered refreshments (coffee, tea...) with a little snack. The meals cost between $5-10 and were of average quality and only a small amount (for the US). Alcoholic drinks were offered for around $7. On all the flights that I have taken in the USA, meals and alcoholic drinks cost. If you're hungry, I advise you to eat at the airport after going through security.

We would be offered other refreshments during the journey.

The restrooms were clean.

Landing and disembarkment happened with no problems. Baggage was retrieved quickly.

I would say Delta is quite a suitable airline for taking domestic trips in the United States. I would recommend it.

Bonjour Florian
