Flight canceled without compensation

Review of zzz about the flight Alitalia between Nice and Rome Fiumicino on 10/05/2015 in Economy

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

On May 9, 2015, Alitalia canceled our May 10 Nice-Catania via Rome flight via e-mail, following a May 7 fire in the Rome Airport.

We then telephoned Alitalia, which offered no alternative, all the while knowing that we had made reservations for the flight and for several hotels in Sicily back in January.
The day before our departure we had to find another airline that made the Nice-Catania flight and had empty seats.

Luckily we found out that Swiss (a very nice airline) had 2 available seats on a flight the next day.

We had to pay an extra € 94 extra but Alitalia didn't want to reimburse us despite our many e-mails.

In conclusion I strongly suggest that anyone traveling to Italy avoid Alitalia. They have no respect for their customers, and no scruples about canceling a flight the day before a trip, even if it had been planned and reserved 4 months in advance.

On the phone, the person was eager to end the call without giving us any help, and by mail, the same people responded that it wasn't their fault so we had no right to complain to them.
