A good flight. In the end, turned out to be a good airline

Review of siamchang about the flight Air India AI143 between Delhi and Paris Charles De Gaulle on 13/08/2013 in Economy

Note: This review is about an experience that happened more than 3 years ago.

Boarding was on time, but we made our connecting flight just in time due to the ghastly organization of the inconvenient Indian controllers and to the never-moving waiting lines that were under the amused eyes of the immigration personnel. The food was not as good as on the Paris-Delhi flight, but we can still say it was average. We could choose between mutton and chicken. But above all, a miracle: what do I see on the tray of a fellow passenger? Wine! It’s a miracle! Burgundy! I quickly ordered two bottles, one white and one red, and they were promptly brought over despite not having been spontaneously offered, as if the wine was jealously guarded… or shamefully hidden. Deception soon set in, though, as I saw the strange color of the wine and felt its also strange taste. In any case, there is wine aboard Air India flights, I have found it! On this specific flight, anyway. A supplementary snack a little too light and not very good was also served a couple of hours before landing. The flight was always comfortable aboard this new Boeing, with take-off, landing, and even turbulences having been barely felt. Still, there were not many options of movies on the modern individual screen unless you are a Bollywood fan. The selection of music was also limited. Consider bringing your own USB key, since there is an outlet! What is especially disappointing about the few Western films that were available is that the selection had not changed in a month… They proposed mainly “Lincoln.” The crew was very nice and there were no problems with the baggage. It should be noted that seat reservations were always observed in the 4 flights we took. In the end, Air India turned out to be a good airline despite its bad reputation. It seems to be improving, anyway – especially after the arrival of the Dreamliner. The only reason I can think of to avoid it is the horrible stopover in Delhi and the risk of missing your connecting flight, which is considerably important when you’re coming from Bangkok and wish to go back to Paris.
